PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times) – On Monday a German couple went to the local police in Kor Kong Province and reported that they had been robbed. They claimed that their bags had been stolen in village 1, Smach Mianjey commune, Royal town by unknown persons.
It turned out that this was a clear case of attempted insurance fraud.
The police went to the “scene of the crime” to investigate, but found no evidence there. They also failed to find anyone who could confirm that a crime had indeed been committed.
The couple was questioned again, and they finally confessed to making up the whole story. They wanted to file a claim with their insurance, and hoped that the insurance company would reimburse them for the “robbed” bags and content.
